Finnebassen‘s global attention being in 2011 when discovered from his Soundcloud and shortly after, when “If You Only Knew” hit the charts… It wasn’t long before labels like he was putting out music on reputable labels such as Get Physical Music, Supernature, Culprit, or Poesie Music. Later on he took his career to another level with his Essential Mix and we’re still listening to it today…
We caught up with Finnebassen, for On&On’s next installment of Free Your Inhibitions….
Where were you born?
I was born in Oslo, Norway.
At what point in your career as a Artists, did you realize that you were “All In”.
I’m not sure. I felt that I was all in when I quit my job to try to do music fulltime. That was when I
100% committed to this life. But I didn’t know I could do it until my track ”Touching Me” went #1
on Beatport Deep House.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
All kinds of music. But my father was a big influence. He liked country, rock, Blues and old pop.
I remember listening to Donald Fagen when he drove me to school. When I got older I picked up
the guitar and was totally submerged in guitar heroes; Jimi, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, Gary
Moore, Noel Gallagher, Gerige Benson. But I also listned to R’n’B and Hip Hop, Soul, Funk and
Jazz. I seemed to find music within alot of genres I enjoyed.
If you could remix one of those artists music, and open for them, who would it be?
Probably I would like to make some funky Edit of George Benson. But I kinda already did. I
really wouldnt want to remix old goldies. Some things you just dont mess with. They are perfect
as they are.
What is your ideal set length, and what’s the longest set you’ve played?
It Depends on the warm up Dj. I like to start off slow and build the set myself. Then I can play for
a LONG time. 5-7 hours easily. I mean I would like to play 3-5 hour sets most of the time, but
sometimes its hard to pick up after someone if you dont like where they are taking the vibe or
where they have already taken it.
What’s the best sound system you’ve ever heard?
Jaeger in Oslo.
Where’s the best sound system you’ve ever played on?
Jaeger in Oslo
Can you describe how your style music sounds? (For context, it’s 3AM, and you are
playing a warm open air venue, with an amazing sound system and there’s 1500 people
who are huge fans of yours)
Well I play melancholic house and techno. I play with my heart on my sleeve I guess its hard to
describe. Come to my gig and hear for yourself.
What’s the most memorable set you’ve heard in the last few months?
I dont really listen to alot of sets these days. But Jon Charnis at Burning Man was a big
suprise. Really impressive. Full of suspense and emotion.
If you could go to space and return, how long would you stay for, who would you bring,
and where would you go?
I would never go. I’m Scared shitless of that concept. I have a hard enough time just taking off in
a normal airplane.
